Winter Wonderland
December 12, 2008 at 6:10 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentTags: ice, pictures, snow, storm, winter
Right now I’m without power. There was an ice storm last night that covered everything in ice. A few trees around here fell down. No power and ice might not be too great, but icy trees make wonderful pictures! This morning, after I ate breakfast, the first thing I did was go outside to take some pictures. :) All of these are from our yard.

NaNoWriMo ‘08 – 50,000 in 30

50,000 words in 30 days. I’m going to try. I’ve already written 2,316 today! My novel is called Dreamblade. I’m probably going to post it her when I finish, but for now, I’ll post my Prologue. Hope you like it!
Dreamblade – Prologue
Long ago, the prince of Arenta requested a silver knife with bright red garnets will be made. Little did he know, the reject would be the key to the world. One local knife maker was chosen to make the silver knife. He worked for days and days, perfecting every little detail. Late at night on the 9th day of working at the knife, a palace guard walked by the knife shop window and saw a mysterious glow coming from the prince’s nearly finished knife. Slowly and unsurely, he crept up to the window and peeked in. The knife really was glowing, but the guard kept this a secret. He walked away, and never told anyone of what he saw through the window that night.
The next day, the knife maker dropped the prince’s new weapon on the floor when his carving blade slipped. A small chip came off of the silver, but the knife maker decided to give the knife to the prince anyway. He carefully placed the knife into a small gold-leaf covered box and padded it with velvet fabric. The prince would be proud, he thought.
But, of course, he was wrong. The first thing noticed by the prince after opening the box was the little chip on the edge of the handle. He threw it against the wall in disgust and demanded that another knife be made from the beginning. The knife maker was depressed for days as he created the new knife, but he never realized what he had created with the first knife that would be left for 100 years.

First of all, Small Bob. The Small Bob. Like, the one in Casey’s pocket. :D

There’s a funny conversation that goes along with this picture:
Me: Small Bob! Can I take a pictue of Small Bob?
Casey: Just Small Bob?
Me: Yeah!
Casey: Okay…
I take the picture. :D
This is from the Ravelry meetup at 12:00!

While at the meetup, I asked Mary-Heather, Jess, and Casey to sign my Rav bag. They did, and it’s awesome. :D Here it is.

Thhheeennnn, I bought some yarn. Lots of it. And took a picture of a sheep. And a chicken. :D

That night, I went to the Ravelry party! There were cupcakes with Ravelry and Bob on them! I was talking to MH, Jess, and Casey a little bit before I left, because we had to go home. They’re pretty awesome people! :D

Le Breadalong, Loaf Two

Four Ingredients. One Jar. One Loaf.
October 5, 2008 at 10:19 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentTags: baking, bread, breadalong, sourdough
Flour. Water. Salt. Yeast.
Put it together, throw it in the oven, pull it out. What do you get?
Bread, of course! Yummy, delicious, sourdough bread!
I finished the breadalong yesterday last Sunday. (I can’t believe it took this long to write this post! My loaf of bread was so good! Here’s what I did…
Step 1: Wake up at 10 AM
Step 2: Dig out your bread hook.
Step 3: Put the ingredients into the mixer bowl.
Step 4: Turn it on!
Step 5: Watch the pretty dough turn around and around and around and around…
Step 6: Realize that there isn’t enough flour in there to possibly make that massive lump of stuff into a ball of bready goodness.
Step 7: Add more flour. Add more. Continue to add more flour until the dough actually forms a ball.
Step 8: Watch the dough for 10 or 15 more minutes.
Step 9: Take the dough out of mixer, place in bowl.
Step 10: Wait.
Step 11: Wait more.
Step 12: Wait more until the blob in your bowl is double the size.
Step 13: Punch it!
Step 14: Listen for that sad, deflated sound as you punch your sad, sad, blob of dough.
Step 15: Shape loaf, let rise.
Step 16: Throw loaf in oven.
Step 17: Enjoy warm tasty bread!
Step 18: Feed the chef.
I have yet to make another loaf. Maybe sometime this week. Maybe next weekend. I don’t know. I also bought a new jar to keep the chef in! It’s smaller so it doesn’t spread out on the bottom and take forever to mix in flour and water. Happy bread making!
Tonight… The Levian!
September 27, 2008 at 10:38 pm | In Uncategorized | 4 CommentsTags: baking, bread, breadalong, chef, levian, spindles and spices
Tonight I’m adding more flour to my chef so I can make the levian for the breadalong! Tomorrow… fresh bread. :)
Am I over excited about this? Possibly so.
There’s a Chef in my Jar
September 24, 2008 at 5:00 pm | In Uncategorized | 2 CommentsTags: baking, bread, breadalong, chef
also known as: Breadalong Part 1
I’m making bread with the Breadalong at Spindles and Spices! This is going to be a lot of fun. :) Today I made my chef (starter) and it looks tiny! But its supposed to get bigger. All you really need is bread flour, water, yeast, and salt! Every day you add flour and water to the jar and on the fifth day, bake bread. Read it. Make it. Eat delicious bread. In case you’re wondering, this is my chef. I’ll post again on day 3 or 4 when I make the levain.

Necklaces and Knitting

That is my necklace. I made it. I was a finalist in the 2007 Fire Mountain Gems Beading Contest! It’s called the Blueberries and Grapes Drop Necklace. Now I can look at it on the Fire Mountain Gems website! The picture they took makes it look so nice! I’m so happy and excited about it! I already have my necklace for the 2009 contest finished, I just have to take pictures! The necklace is made with sterling silver, amethyst, quartz, and blue lace agate. When I entered the contest, I had no idea that I would be a finalist, but I was! :)
The Olympics and the Ravelympics started on August 8th. I’ve been knitting my Under the Rose fingerless gloves with Knit Picks Palette for the Glove Decathlon in the Ravelympics. I have one glove finished and I’m in the middle of the thumb gusset for the second one. I love this pattern! It’s easy to follow and knit, and it’s beautiful! I can’t wait to finish the second glove! When I do finish it, I’ll either knit a pair of socks with the sock blank that I got in a swap, or design a pair of fingerless gloves. I haven’t decided yet. :)
Happy knitting!
